Biography
Dr. Beecherl is a Clinical Associate Professor at Texas A&M College of Medicine at Texas A&M Health Science Center, Dallas. Dr. Beecherl is a board-certified general surgeon with a focus on hepato-biliary and pancreatic surgery, islet autotransplantation and gastrointestinal oncologic surgery. He has practiced in Dallas since finishing his fellowship training in 1999. Prior to moving to Baylor University Medical Center, part of Baylor Scott & White Health, in Dallas, he practiced at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas serving in several leadership positions including the Executive Committee of the Medical Board and seven years as Chairman of the Department of General Surgery. He has been named one of the "Best Doctors in Dallas" by D Magazine perennially since 2001. He has also been recognized as a "Texas Super Doctor" by Texas Monthly Magazine for the last several consecutive years. Dr. Beecherl received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas, at Austin in 1986, his Masters of Science in Anatomy from Tulane University Graduate School in 1991, and his Doctorate of Medicine from Tulane University Medical Center in 1991. Dr. Beecherl started his post-graduate training in Dallas as a surgical intern at Parkland Memorial Hospital in 1991. He then trained for six years at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center which included two years of laboratory research and four years of residency which he finished in 1998 as the Administrative Surgical Chief Resident of Parkland. His last year of training was a fellowship in Hepato-Biliary and Pancreatic Surgery at the Toronto General Hospital in Toronto, Ontario. After completing his fellowship, Dr. Beecherl returned to Dallas and was a founding partner of Southwest General Surgery Associates. In 2016 he moved to Baylor's Simmons Transplant Institute and serves as the Director of Islet Autotransplantation. Dr. Beecherl is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery, and a member of Dallas County Medical Society, the Texas Medical Society, the Parkland Surgical Society, and the American Hepato-Biliary and Pancreatic Association. Dr. Beecherl is a native of Dallas who stays active outside the hospital raising four children with his wife, Susan, and by serving on several civic, church, and foundation boards.
