Biography
Dr. Melvin Lau completed his Gastroenterology fellowship in 2010 and joined Scott & White in Round Rock as a senior staff member. He was named Director of Endoscopy in 2012, then the Section Chief of Gastroenterology in 2016. In 2019, Dr. Lau served as the Division Director of Medicine at Baylor Scott & White Health –Round Rock from 2019 -2023. He currently holds the title of Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) for the Greater Austin Region. Dr. Lau earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio. He then completed both his Internal Medicine residency and Gastroenterology fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine at the Texas Medical Center in Houston. During his training, he conducted cancer outcomes research and had numerous GI publications utilizing the SEER database. He trained in both EUS (Endoscopic Ultrasound)/ERCP and started the EUS program at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center –Round Rock. He served in the Scott & White Clinic Staff Organization (CSO) from 2013-2019. He completed the Southern Methodist University (SMU) Advanced Physician Leadership Course in 2017. He is a strong advocate for physician compensation and retirement planning. He regularly teaches personal finance for physicians and was guest lecturer at Texas ACP (American College of Physicians) annual meeting in 2022. Dr. Lau is a fellow of the American Gastroenterology Association. In his free time, he enjoys traveling with his wife and three daughters, cooking, and college football. Dr. Lau has been recognized as a Top Doc 2024 and 2025 by Austin Monthly Magazine. Winners are nominated by their peers as among the best in their region/nation in their medical speciality.
